Tehran Airport Facts
Imam Khomeini International airport is located at a distance of 30 kilometres from the southwest province of Tehran in Iran and can easily be reached by both public and private transport modes through the Tehran-Qom Freeway. This airport was initially designed to replace the Mehrabad International airport which lies at the west of the city. The airport was named so in the honour of Ruhollah Khomeini. IKA became the primary airport in Tehran in the year 2007 and all international flights except those that flew to Damascus, Medina and Jeddah were transferred to the Imam Khomeini International Airport. Now the airport hosts about 23 air carriers rendering service to about 12 million passengers each year and caters to all destinations across Iran, Europe and the Entire Asia. The airport has a single terminal with VIP lounge for special passengers.

The predominant airlines that uses the services of the Tehran, Imam Khomeini international include the Pegasus airlines, which covers about 48% of the entire air traffic in this province and others are the Sky express, Emirates, KLM royal Dutch airlines, Turkish airlines, BMI, Austrian airlines, Lufthansa, Kuwait airlines, Alitalia etc. The favourite destinations for all flights starting from the IKA include Sharjah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Frankfurt, Mozart, Amsterdam etc. and Turkey is the most famous of these destinations covering entire air traffic of about 28%.
