Basra Airport Facts
Basra – for many people this is a destination worth seeing. Visitors should love heat and simplicity. The Basra International Airport is the third largest one in Iraq. The city itself, an intermittent metropolis of over 2 million people in 2012, is also the third largest city in Iraq and its main port. The fact that it is a famous historical site should not be forgotten either! It was the home of Sindbad the Sailor and is a proposed location of the Garden of Eden. Beautifully located in southeastern Iraq the Airport underwent an expansion in 2011 and now constitutes the socioeconomic hub of southern Iraq. Apart from being one of the most important historical sites in Asia it is also one of the hottest one! In the summer you can hardly expect under 40°C. What a blessing that the coffee shop and the gift shop inside the terminal are open all day and night long! A cool drink will help you enjoy this cultural centre – especially a free one from the public refrigerators – before connecting to Asia, Europe, the Middle East or the Arabian Gulf!
