Mashhad international airport is also known as the Shahid Hashemi Najad airport and is located in the Mashhad province in Iran. The airport is termed as the countryâ€™s second biggest airport and lies secondary to the Tehran Mehrabad Airpot. It is capable of handling about 5 Lakh passengers every year along with 34,500 tons of cargo. The airport is well connected with about 57 destinations across the world and has flights to 30 cities quite frequently within Iran. It also connects well to 27 destinations across Central Asia, East Asia, Middle East and the Europe. The airport recently underwent expansion and renovation and has an overall area of about 30, 000 square meters and opened a new terminal for international carriers as well. The airport also was armed with a new building for parking, custom storage options and a cargo terminal. Advancements in taxi ways, fire and police protection were also enhanced.

The Airport is well connected with 30 cities and about 57 destinations across the world and its frequent flight carriers are the Avia traffic company serving Bishtek, the Caspian airlines covering the entire Tehran â€“ mehrabad, Tabriz, Isfahan and Shiraz, Iran air spreading across Yazd, Birjand, Tehran- mehrabad etc., Fars Qeshm air serving Isfahan, Tehran- mehrabad and the Iran air tours serving Baghdad and Dubai. Other domestic air carriers include the Iran Aseman airlines serving Ahwaz, Tehran-Imam Khomeini and Noshahr. Among the international carriers the most competent ones are the Iraqi airways, the Jazeera airways and the Kam air serving Najaf, Kuwait and Kabul respectively.
