Bengaluru International Airport Facts
Kempegowda International Airport is an international airport serving the Indian city of Bangalore. It is 4 kilometres south of Devanahalli and is 40 kilometres from the central business district of Bangalore, 30 kilometres from the Bangalore City Railway Station and covers 1,900 ha.
It replaced the HAL airport in 2008. For the Fiscal year 2014-15, it is South India's most and third busiest airport in the country in overall passenger traffic 15.24 million after Delhi and Mumbai. The airport handled 19.3 percent more passengers as compared to 2013-14, with 21.4 percent growth from domestic and 11.2 percent growth from international flights. The airport in this fiscal year 2014-15 witnessed 15.9 percent growth in cargo, led by 21.4 percent growth in domestic and 11.2 percent growth in international cargo.
Kempegowda International Airport handled about 15.24 million passengers and had air traffic movements of about 359 per day in 2013-14. The airport is expected to handle 20 million passengers in 2015 and about 55 million passengers annually by 2029-30. It is host to 10 domestic airlines and 21 international airlines connecting the city to about 50 destinations across India and rest of the world. The airport serves as the main hub for AirAsia India, Air Pegasus and as a secondary hub for SpiceJet and Jet Airways. It also serves as focus city for Air India and IndiGo. It was also the primary hub for the now defunct Air Deccan and Kingfisher Airlines.
