Aeroflot Airlines, commonly known as Aeroflot, is the flag carrier and largest airline of the Russian Federation, in terms of passengers carried per year. It's headquartered in Arbat District, Central Administrative Okrug in Moscow. It is 51%-owned by the Russian Government, as of June 2011. The airline joined SkyTeam in April 2006, becoming the 10th member of the alliance.
Aeroflot operates domestic and international passenger services covering a network of 97 cities in 49 countries in America, Africa and Middle East, Asia, Russian Federation and CIS and Europe. These flights are mainly from its hub at Sheremetyevo International Airport
Soviet-manufactured planes were used for most of the airline's history. However, it has begun to replace these old aircrafts with Western model.
