Baggage policies of Air New Zealand

Like any other airlines, Air New Zealand also places some restrictions on baggage "quota" for their passengers.

Cabin baggage policies.

Customers in Economy class may take one piece of cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) onboard Air New Zealand Jet and Link flights. Dimensions for that bag should not exceed 118cm (46.5"). This generally means baggage should be no more than 57cm (width), 37cm (height) and 24cm (depth) for an overnight bag, laptop bag or briefcase or 60cm (width), 11cm (height) and 114cm (length) for a suit pack or garment bag.

Business class, First class and Star Alliance Gold Customers are permitted two pieces with the same conditions as above.

In addition to your allowance, you may also carry on board one small personal item such as a handbag, a laptop or duty free goods (where permitted). As a safety precaution, all cabin baggage must be able to fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front of you.

Anything in excess of the dimensions and weight allowed as listed above will need to be repacked as part of your checked baggage allowance and excess baggage charges may apply.

Checked baggage policies.

A a general standard of aviation industry, your checked bag must not exceed total dimensions (length + width + height) of 158cm (62") and weigh within 32 Kg.

Air New Zealand divides checked baggage allowance into three types:

    For long-haul international flights

• Passengers in Economy class are allowed to bring 01 bag of checked baggage, max weight is 23Kg (50 lbs).
• Passengers in Premium Economy or Business class are allowed to bring 02 bags, max weight is also 23 Kg.
• Passengers are member of Gold Elite/ Gold/Star Gold and Koru Club are allowed to bring 03 bags within 23 Kg/ each.

    Australia and Pacific Islands short-haul international flights

• Baggage allowance depends on which kind of ticket type you choose.
• For "seat" product: No checked baggage allowance is applied.
• For "seat bag" and "The works" product: You are allowed to carry 01 bag, within 23Kg.
• For "Works Deluxe" product: You are allowed to carry 02 bags, within 23Kg.
• For "Business" product: You are allowed to carry 03 bags, within 23Kg.

    Domestic New Zealand flights

• If your ticket is either "Grabaseat" or "Smart Saver", you can bring 01 bag within 23 Kg at free of charge.
• If your ticket is "Flexi Plus", your baggage allowance is 02 bags.
• In case that you are a member of Gold Elite/ Gold/ Star Gold or Koru Club, the checked baggage allowance is 03 bags.
• In case that your checked bag is over 23 Kg and less than 32 Kg, you will have to afford $50 as the charge of overweight baggage.
