Like any other airlines, Air New Zealand also places some restrictions on baggage "quota" for their passengers.
Cabin baggage policies.
Customers in Economy class may take one piece of cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs) onboard Air New Zealand Jet and Link flights. Dimensions for that bag should not exceed 118cm (46.5"). This generally means baggage should be no more than 57cm (width), 37cm (height) and 24cm (depth) for an overnight bag, laptop bag or briefcase or 60cm (width), 11cm (height) and 114cm (length) for a suit pack or garment bag.
Business class, First class and Star Alliance Gold Customers are permitted two pieces with the same conditions as above.
In addition to your allowance, you may also carry on board one small personal item such as a handbag, a laptop or duty free goods (where permitted). As a safety precaution, all cabin baggage must be able to fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front of you.
Anything in excess of the dimensions and weight allowed as listed above will need to be repacked as part of your checked baggage allowance and excess baggage charges may apply.
Checked baggage policies.
A a general standard of aviation industry, your checked bag must not exceed total dimensions (length + width + height) of 158cm (62") and weigh within 32 Kg.
Air New Zealand divides checked baggage allowance into three types:
For long-haul international flights
Australia and Pacific Islands short-haul international flights
Domestic New Zealand flights
