Sapporo Airport

New Chitose Airport (Shin-Chitose Kūkō) (IATA: CTS, ICAO: RJCC), is an airport located in Chitose and Tomakomai, Hokkaidō, Japan, serving the Sapporo metropolitan area. By land area, it is the largest airport in Japan. In FY 2006, it served 18,536,350 passengers, third in Japan to only Narita and Haneda. More than 250 domestic flights a day and 40 international flights arrive at and depart from the airport.

The best way to get accessed to Sapporo is by rail, JR’s Chitose line connects directly to the airport and takes around 36 min to get to Sapporo station for a bit over JPY 1000. Otherwise, you may catch a taxi to get to the city centre, it costs around JPY 13.000 - 15.000 and taking 50-60 minutes.

Other travel options

Trains are another option for traveling from Osaka to Sapporo.The daily and less expensive Nihonkai runs twice daily from Osaka and Kyoto to Aomori, from which 2 connecting express trains bring you to Sapporo by the following afternoon. The total journey time is around 20 hours 30 minutes.
