Salalah Airport Facts
Salalah is a growing city and a famous tourist destination in the south of Oman. It has about 200,000 residents. The Salalah Airport is situated 5.5 kilometers northeast of Salalah City. Close to the coastline with its sandy beaches and coconut palms it is the Sultanat's second gateway. Since the Dhofar region is estimated to experience a growth in tourism over the next twenty years the airport is under construction. The new airport will be an international one opening up in 2014. However, the airport is open during the construction work and serves mostly domestic flights. It includes a fancy restaurant and bar that serves quality Indian cuisine for a great price! A coffee shop is to be found as well. In addition to that, there are a souvenir and book shop and a cafeteria located in the departures hall. Lounges and seating areas are distributed over the building.
Arrivals and Departures
At the moment the Salalah Airport serves mostly domestic flights to Muscat or to airports in the area such as Sharjah, Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah and Riyadh. During the Khareef season – the main touristic season – the population of the city can double so international flights mostly to Europe are being incorporated.
