Glasgow International Airport (GLA)

The Glasgow International Airport is a public international aviation facility that is located in the Scotland.  This particular airport is currently owned by the Heathrow Airport Holdings and is currently operated by the company Glasgow Airport Limited.  The IATA code for this airport is GLA and the ICAO airport code is EGPF.

Right now the Glasgow International Airport only has 1 runway at its facility.  This runway is constructed entirely of grooved asphalt and measures more than 8,500 feet in length.

Back in the year 2012, the Glasgow International Airport handled more than 7 million passengers for the duration of the entire year.  Additionally there were about 90,000 aircraft movements for the entirety of the year as well.  Both of these were fairly significant increases over the previous years.

The original construction for the Glasgow International Airport happened back in the early 1930s but it wasn’t actually put into regular use until a few years later.

Right now the Glasgow International Airport ranks as number 4 on the list of the busiest airports in the United Kingdom and became one of the busiest airports in the entire United Kingdom for the first time back in the late 1990s.

Location

The Glasgow International Airport is located only a little more than 6 miles away from the center of the city of Glasgow, toward the western side of it.  Additionally, it isn’t very far away from the towns of Renfrew and Paisley in Renfrewshire.

The Glasgow International Airport has an elevation of more than 26 feet above sea level.
